For many of us, Labor Day marks the end of summer and a return to more structured routines. Officially and nationally, it’s the federal holiday honoring the social and economic contributions of American workers. The origins of Labor Day date to the late 19th century and unprecedented transformations in business and industry. That era witnessed a surge in railroads, factories, corporations, and agriculture, sparking small-town growth and big-city sprawl. During that period, people from around the world clamored to America’s shores for chances to seize success.

Interestingly, about that time, the roots of our Hancock Whitney organization took hold, too. Our founders were already instrumental in shaping Gulf South growth. Never complacent with status quo, these early influencers continually envisioned new ways to create more opportunities. They also recognized the impact a strong, solid bank could make in helping people and communities benefit from the prosperity America’s expanding labor force was forging.

Committed to Serve_Labor DayFrom the first day we opened our doors, our own labor force — our associates — has constituted the collective heart and soul of our company. For generations, they’ve carefully, caringly helped clients succeed, businesses grow, communities thrive, and our company stay strong and stable. Individually and as teams, our associates have ensured Hancock Whitney’s expansion across a footprint covering all of the Gulf South states for more than 124 years.

The social and economic contributions of our Hancock Whitney associates stem not from the dictates of their job descriptions but rather from innate love of and commitment to communities where they live, work, and raise families. Just as our founders expected, they carry on core values central to how we do business. They embrace a mission that guides them to give clients smart financial choices at each stage of life to help people achieve their financial goals and dreams.

Our associates also sustain a longstanding promise that our bank will be there when and where our clients and communities need us. In good times or amid adversity — whether economic uncertainty, natural disasters, or pandemics — resourceful Hancock Whitney associates turn to the company’s timeless founding principles to serve the people and places that turn to us.

On Labor Day and every day, we pay tribute to the American workers whose toils and talents fuel our country’s economic engine. Additionally, we celebrate and thank all Hancock Whitney associates past and present whose professional expertise and personal engagement empower partnerships that bring about financial and community opportunities fostering a better life for people calling our region home.

We hope you can find ways to say thank you to the people you know who show up, who work hard, and whose efforts make so many differences in helping our hometowns and local businesses and citizens succeed.

May you and those you care about most enjoy a safe, pleasant Labor Day weekend.
