Welcome to the Markets and Economic Update, provided by the Hancock Whitney Asset Management team as an informational resource for clients and individuals who are interested in hearing our perspectives on current economic issues.

Markets and Economic Update

July’s call begins with a discussion regarding the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, as well as a review of recent hospitalization and fatality trends. The possibility of further lock downs and the possible economic impacts of such were also discussed and how more widespread mask use could be a possible solution opposed to broad lock downs.

The commentary then shifts to job improvement and what this means for 2Q GDP and growth going forward.

Our dialogue then examines recent stock market performance and the perceived disconnect between the market and economic data, and why the market seems unaffected by the recent news.

Finally, we end with an update on fixed income markets.
