In celebration of Juneteenth, Hancock Whitney proudly sponsored events and supported volunteer efforts, all centered around honoring Black history, uplifting local communities, and continuing the legacy of service and empowerment.

A Historic Celebration Rooted in Community

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. While the earliest celebrations often took place in local churches, today, Juneteenth gatherings have expanded into parks, community centers, and city streets across the country. People celebrate with festivals, historical programs, music, poetry, storytelling, and cherished moments with family and friends. At the heart of it all remains a common thread: honoring the past, celebrating freedom, and fostering unity.

On June 14, we were honored to sponsor Juneteenth in the Pass in Pass Christian, Mississippi—a day that beautifully blended remembrance, recognition, and celebration. The day began with the Juneteenth in the Pass Celebration Brunch, themed "If Not You, Then Who," which spotlighted the lives and contributions of six local heroes. Their stories served as powerful reminders of the progress made possible by individuals committed to justice, compassion, and community.

Following the brunch, guests enjoyed a Day Party filled with live music, dancing, and heartfelt conversation. This atmosphere of joy and unity was matched by a deeper purpose: proceeds from the event funded three $500 scholarships awarded to Pass Christian High School graduates.

Whether drawn by the music, the message, or the movement, attendees left reminded that Juneteenth in the Pass was more than an event—it was a meaningful moment of shared purpose and hope.

Volunteering at Giving Hope NOLA: Living the Legacy

We also honored Juneteenth through service. Several of our New Orleans associates volunteered at the Giving Hope NOLA Food Pantry, where they packed and distributed boxes filled with essential food items. From shelf-stable goods to fresh milk, produce, and frozen fish, these packages provided critical support for local families.

Volunteering in celebration of Juneteenth is a meaningful way to honor the day’s legacy of freedom and resilience. By giving back, we help address present-day inequalities and continue the spirit of community care that defines the holiday.

Juneteenth Celebration

Our Juneteenth celebration continues June 21 as proud sponsors of the 3rd Annual JZ 94.5 Juneteenth Celebration in Gulfport. This event will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Calvin Huey—Jackson County native, barrier-breaking Navy football player, and respected physician.

The celebration is a tribute to the strength of our shared history and a reminder that, together, we can help shape the future.
