As Americans gather this Fourth of July to observe our Nation’s 250th anniversary, we mark far more than a historical milestone.

The Semiquincentennial signals a special once-in-a-generation moment to reflect on our growth as a democracy, a remarkable story that began in 1776 with a bold declaration that people united by common purpose and shared values could build something extraordinary.

For two and a half centuries, America has shone bright in prosperity and even brighter, stronger, and more resilient through challenge. Generations of people have worked, fought, and sacrificed to keep communities strong, create future opportunities, and perpetuate fundamental principles paramount to our story as a great republic.

At Hancock Whitney, the significance of this Fourth of July resonates profoundly throughout our organization.

Vision, Strength, & Spirit

Chartered just 123 years after the United States was born, our bank has had the privilege to help people and communities succeed across one of America’s most dynamic regions, the greater Gulf South. Generations of associates have believed in the promise of the communities we serve and worked hard to help those hometowns thrive. They’ve recognized that strong communities depend on strong relationships, responsible stewardship, and a commitment to helping others succeed. Those strong communities help make for a strong country.

With the tower marquee glowing red, white, and blue for the Nation’s 250th birthday, Hancock Whitney’s corporate headquarters overlooks the thriving Port of Gulfport, an economic driver that helps keep Coastal Mississippi and many other American communities strong.

Starting with our founders and continuing with our teams today, every member of our Hancock Whitney family has helped write our company’s story. Together, we’ve weathered economic downturns, world wars, natural disasters, periods of uncertainty, and tremendous expansion. We’ve seen communities evolve and industries emerge. Through every chapter, our mission, purpose, and core values have stayed steadfast, in many ways reflecting the timeless ideals central to the Nation’s story and the enduring American spirit.

The founders of our Nation could not have imagined all that America would become over the next two and a half centuries. The founders of our organization could not have foreseen what financial services would become, with digital banking, smartphone apps, instant payments, and global financial markets.

Yet, as visionaries looking far beyond their respective times, both groups understood the importance of creating institutions built around cornerstones of core values; institutions designed to grow and last; institutions defined by stories that would never end.

Of the People

America’s success these past 250 years has depended on people who believed in these ideals and worked to put them into practice. Hancock Whitney’s success since 1899 has depended on associates who have embraced these values in serving the hard-working people looking to us as their financial and community partner.

As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday and mark the 127th year since we first opened our doors, we at Hancock Whitney remain both proud and humbled that we have been able to help foster progress and opportunity for people living in this beautiful land of the free and the brave.

This July 4, we also consider the honor, valor, commitment, service, fortitude, and patriotism that have brought America to this landmark occasion. We remain ever thankful for the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy as citizens of this great Nation. Most important, we remember and respect that liberty comes at great personal sacrifice among those who serve to keep us free and safe.

May you enjoy a very special Fourth of July with those important to you. Happy 250th birthday, America!
