Hancock Whitney Announces Partnership with Florida A&M University

Partnership to provide scholarship funding and financial education to student-athletes

Tallahassee, Fla. (June 8, 2021)—Today, Hancock Whitney announced a partnership with Florida A&M University (FAMU) aimed at providing support and financial resources for student-athletes. The $10,000 investment will be distributed through a scholarship to students with a low- to moderate-income and demonstrate academic excellence.

"I cannot express how thankful I am for our student-athletes to be receiving this scholarship from Hancock Whitney,” said Michelle D. Harper, Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Success & Competitive Excellence. “Their generous donation will greatly impact the lives of the scholarship recipients. During these unprecedented times, funding for school has been a burden that some of our student-athletes have faced. We are happy to receive support from Hancock Whitney to alleviate those barriers."

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will oversee the distribution of scholarship funding to students athletes.

"Recognizing that there is a need for financial support among students, we are honored to partner with FAMU to provide that funding as they work to produce champions on the field, in the classroom, and in the community,” said Tamara Wyre, Senior Vice President, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director at Hancock Whitney. “Alleviating some of the financial burden for these students so they can focus on their education, commitments, and future is something we are proud to play a role in.”

In addition to the financial contribution, Hancock Whitney will deliver customized financial education to student-athletes, designed for young adults who are managing their own finances and household. Topics will be focused on key areas including personal finance management, savings, as well as borrowing and loan management.
